STEM Is A Girl Thing! Just Ask Osborn Park High School Robotics Team The Metal Jackets.
At the beginning of the era of digital transformation, the underrepresentation of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) occupations presents key challenges. The "International Day of Women and Girls in Science" is an initiative by the UN to highlight the significance of supporting female researchers at all stages of their careers. Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, asserts that "women are necessary to science and that science requires the world". We cannot allow humanity to waste even half of its creative potential.
Pink Space Theory is completely devoted to promoting equality for women in STEM and academia. We are so proud of the many accomplishments of female STEM superstars such as Cynthia Braezeal, Crystal Chao, Vivian Chu, and Dr. Knatokie Ford who have made significant contributions to the STEM community.
The goal of Pink Space Theory's Ambassadors Program is to inspire females to develop an interest for STEM fields by providing them with realistic STEM role models and educational opportunities. High school or college students who are Pink Space Theory ambassadors aim to motivate and offer learning opportunities to underrepresented and underserved kids in a variety of ways. To get more girls in the community motivated and aware of STEM jobs, ambassadors use their creativity to plan and organize events or projects like giving STEM seminars, hosting podcasts, Family STEM fairs, and boot camps.
This is just what the Osbourn High School Metal Jackets Robotics Team did as part of the ambassador program. The team designed and hosted a 4-session workshop to introduce twenty-four 4th and 5th-grade girls to the wonderful world of robotics with hands-on programming, electrical, and mechanical projects. Thank you, Metal Jackets, for showing our girls that STEM IS A GIRL THING!
We need support throughout the year for ambassador projects such as this! Sign up to volunteer or make donations to help us give students a chance to grow their leadership skills and serve as authentic role models to other girls !
